Teenage Ghost

The Markey High School band took the stage. The green and white band filled the space completely and began a rendition that resembled “Once upon a Time” by Peace Fruit. It had dropped rank to the top twenty now, though it was probably number one when they started practicing. It held number one for twelve weeks. You could almost make the song out through the dirge like maneuvers of the band.
Vi leaned over and whispered into Jeff’s ear. “That was some little welcome in the hallway.” She practically hissed venom with every syllable. “You have some nerve, showing up over here on my turf.”
     Neighboring students “Shh’d” at Vi.
She glared at them and threw herself back in her seat. Her two cronies sat in silence watching her. Vi stared at the back of Jeff’s head so intently, it seemed as if she was waiting for it to explode all over the auditorium.
Jeff turned around and glared at Vi.
Vi kicked the back of Jeff’s seat so hard it shook the row.
Several students jumped out of their seats and began to argue with Vi.
“Oh shut up!” Vi stood her ground. “It’s just a stupid band competition, no one here is going to win state. And you!” Vi pointed at a visiting Markey student. “Your band sucks!”
“Whoa! Hey!” Evan stood up and turned around to face Vi.
Vi stopped her harassment immediately and smiled at Evan.
The small mob turned around grumbling and sat back down in their seats.
Vi stared at the back of Evan’s head for a while. You could tell she was planning something, something big. Something she needed an accomplice for. Someone who would blindly follow her as if in Love. Someone she could trust. Someone smart and willing to stand up when called for. “So much like Evan, you are.” she mused just loud enough the other girls could hear.
“The one you loved?” The girl the right asked.
“The one I died for.” she narrowed her eyes. He broke her heart, all for that conniving little nerd. Jeff always hated her, always wanted to drive them apart. But it was Evan she loved all that time, and he could never see it. Never accept it to be true. Vi felt a small fire of anger and vengeance began to burn deep inside.
She leaned forward again and whispered into Jeff’s ear. “You took him from me. You know that! You couldn’t convince him to leave, so you took him the only way you knew how.”
Jeff turned around in his seat, he could see how angry Vi was out of the corner of his eye. “You’ve got it all wrong, it was never like that.” he tried to explain.
“You shut up!” Vi hit Jeff in the head as he turned around. “You wanted him away from me so badly you were willing to die for it. You wanted to prove to me once and for all who he loved more. It was you, it was always you.” Vi paused for a second and pulled herself closer to Jeff. “You owe me this. My second chance. My second change at happiness, at love. Tell him I’m not that bad.”
“I wont let you destroy him like you did my friend.” Jeff whispered defiantly back to her.
“Convince your friend to go out with me, or you’ll regret it.” Vi dug her nails deep into Jeff’s shoulder.
He was quite surprised at the pain she was able to inflict. Surprised and worried.
