Teenage Ghost

Vi’s gang walked past the girls locker room right as Inja and her friends were walking out.
Vi stopped in her tracks and glared at the girls. “Nothing to say now?”, Vi asked sharply.
Belenda put her arm around Inja and squeezed her tight.
Jody pointed at Emily, “I see your numbers are growing.”
Vi noticed Inja’s puffy eyes despite their use of makeup to hide it. Vi grinned wickedly and decided to provoke Inja, “What happened? Did you loose your boyfriend?”
Inja burst into tears, and began sobbing.
“Oh leave her alone!” Kiesha yelled and rushed to her sobbing friend.
“Serves them right, after the way they treated us at the theatre.” Jarzon said as the group walked away. He hugged Brenda slightly with the arm he had around her shoulder. “We’re not sub-humans.” he said loud enough for the cheerleaders to overhear.
Kiesha shook her head and rolled her eyes, then turned back to her friend. “You don’t have to do this. Not any of this. We can hide it.”
Inja wailed and sobbed, “No! No! No! You don’t know my father he will find out. How will I make it to practices? I’ll never see Evan again.”
“Noooo.” Belenda soothed. “You will always be able to see him here at school. Between classes, at lunch.”
“It’s better than nothing.” Jody interrupted.
“Nothing has to change.” Kiesha added in quickly. “You’re not turning in your uniform. You’re not telling the coach anything.” Kiesha said in a firm tone.
“You will have to talk to Evan though.” Belenda dabbed at the streak marks under Inja’s eyes. “Just to explain everything, but not until after we fix this mess you created.”
“You need to calm down.” Jody assured her. “Parents are like that. They think they own you, they don’t want their baby to grow up.”
Kiesha jumped in, “That’s right! They want to be able to control every little move you make all your whole life!”
“You have to stand up for yourself.” Jody pointed at Inja.
“He said he’ll move us back to Pakistan…” Inja’s tears began to fall again.
Belenda commented plainly, “If Pakistan was so great, I doubt he ever would have left.” Belenda sighed in disgust, “We’re just going to have to wash it all off and start over again.”
“No mascara this time.” Jody added.
