Teenage Ghost

Jeff had been dragged by the shadowy thing then suddenly let go. He could now see what was happening in the stairwell in front of him.
Vi dropped the electronic device Lore had brought.
     The contraption turned on.
The spirit was only a shadow, but now took a more solid form. Realizing it was matter and no longer gas, it grabbed Vi by the throat.
Jeff screamed at the figure that held Vi by the throat, “Stop!”
An energy Jeff had never felt before surged through him. It was as if the very spirit of the school was empowering him. He felt as if every student that had ever walked the halls was lending him their power. He stepped out into the stairwell. His body changed from a ghostly form to a corporeal one. “Let her go.” Jeff warned the thing.
It refused to let go, it looked as if it was trying to drain her of her powers. Vi pointed repeatedly to the device she’d dropped.
Jeff glanced at the ground at the device. He reached over, picked it up, and turned it off quickly.
The thing did not like that. It changed back to spirit form and it’s hands slipped through Vi’s neck as if it wasn’t there.
Josh and Janus busted through the bottom of the stairwell and rushed up the stairs towards the group.
“What the..?” Josh froze in his steps.
Janus found he could not move either. The shadowy thing floated towards him, as if he was a long lost friend. It cupped it’s hands under Janus’ chin as if caressing it lovingly. It leaned forward as if it was kissing Janus.
Except, it wasn’t kissing Janus. You could not see what it was really doing because Janus wore a black skin suit. You could not see the spirit slowly forcing it’s way up Janus’ nostrils. You could not see Janus’ eyes rolling in the back of his head, nor his mouth open in a desperate attempt to scream. The spirit moved quickly now in through Janus’ open mouth, til there was not a trace of it in the outside world.
Jeff looked at the figure in the skin suit and said nothing. He knew what just happened, he also knew he didn’t have the power to do anything about it. However, he did know someone who could. He turned his attention to Vi instead and pretended to go along with the plan. “Vi? Are you alright?”
Josh rushed forward, able to move again. He wrapped his arms around Vi and held her close. “I’m sorry Vi!”, he repeated over and over in her ear.
Vi was a little more than happy at this new turn of events. “I’m alright.” Vi said and hugged him back. “I missed you too.”
Josh hugged her closer to him, “I’ll never leave you again.”
Vi felt her strength slowly returning to normal in his embrace. She looked over her shoulder at Janus. “Hi Janus.” she said then glanced over at Jeff.
Josh looked over at Janus, “Thanks a lot. I have it from here. It means a lot you came with me to rescue Vi.”
“Think nothing of it.” Janus replied and the sprinted out of the stairwell and out into the night.
“Who’s this?” Josh asked as he turned his attention to Jeff.
“He’s no one.” Vi muttered and snuggled closer to Josh.
Jeff handed the device to Josh, “I just heard her scream. I ran to help.”
Josh took the device from him.
“Anyway, I have to get home.” Jeff turned and started walking out.
“Thanks for the help.” Josh called after him.
Jeff ran towards the last place he’d called home and hoped Rhonda was still alive.
