Teenage Ghost

Vi pushed pushed off the wall after watching the sight. She walked towards the loving couple. As she sat down sideways on the bench, she said, “How lucky you are to have this table all to yourselves.” She waved her hand at students sitting on the cement eating their bagged lunches, then questioned “You think because you’re head cheerleader you’re royalty?”
Evan looked at Vi. He wanted to be angry with her, but she was right. What gave them the right to sit here alone, while people had to sit on the floor eating. He put his arm around Inja quickly. If they needed to move suddenly he could gently pull her away from Vi.
Inja said nothing. She was almost frozen in fear over Vi.
Vi smirked at the two. “So protective.” she leaned in, “You know, he used to be my boyfriend.”
   Inja said nothing still.
Evan tried to draw her attention away from Inja. “What do you want, Vi?”
Vi glanced over at Evan, “Do you miss it? The long nights of making out. The times we held each other til we fell asleep.”
Evan put the record straight, “We never!”
Vi smiled wickedly at him, “We could.” She glanced over at Inja, who sat uncomfortably stiff in Evan’s arm, then back at him. “What was this about Jeff’s disappearance? At the mall?” she questioned.
“You never liked Jeff, you two were never friends.” Evan accused.
“You said he disappeared at the mall.” Vi repeated not paying attention to his insulting tone. “Was it on the second floor by the gypsy shop?”
   “Gypsy shop?” Evan questioned.
Vi narrowed her eyes, but it wasn’t Evan she was angry with. Vi then snapped at Evan as she got up disinterested with the couple, “Forget it. You obviously have other things on your mind these days.”
