Teenage Ghost

Three days Evan had gone up to the hospital, but Vi was never there. The nurses in the intensive care unit had never seen anyone visit the old woman.
Evan felt bad for the girl. He was even considering asking Jeff about how to contact her since they obviously knew each other. He couldn’t understand why Jeff would hate this girl so much.
Jeff was at his locker between class when Evan finally saw him. “How’s your Granddad?”
“He was doing better, but right now he’s doing worse. You know that girl from Studemont High?”
     “Vi?” Jeff was unamused.
“You just don’t understand her.” Evan tried to rationalize to Jeff.
Jeff was unloading books into his locker and passed Evan a look.
“She was so upset, and crying.” Evan pleaded for his friends help. “I can’t get the sight out of my head.”
Jeff slammed the locker door closed, and look at his friend in mild annoyance. “I can’t help you.” Jeff said finally.
“Then will you at least tell me why?”
“She told you why.” Jeff stood in the hallway.
The bell rang for fourth period, the two stood in the hallway alone.
“I’m not leaving here until you tell me the truth about you two.” Evan stood his ground. “We can get detention, whatever…”
“Alright.” Jeff looked at his friend. “She’s a liar. I’ll tell you that right off, and whatever she’s told you is probably all lies.”
     “Why would she do that?”
“To manipulate you into doing her bidding.”
Evan began to get annoyed with his friend. “Get real. She was just there visiting her Grandma.”
Jeff saw the answer to his problem. “Is her grandmother’s last name Imadoe? That’s Vi’s last name.”
Evan’s heart skipped a beat as he heard her last name. He knew it now, he could look her up online and find her that way.
Jeff became puzzled at Evan’s sudden change in demeanor. “What are you thinking?”
“Nothin.” Evan shrugged. “We should probably come up with a story and get to class.”
“Yeah.” Jeff agreed. “Stay away from Vi, okay? Please. As a favor to me.” he pleaded with Evan Jr just as he had before.
“Did she really kill your best friend?” Evan pushed.
“She didn’t literally kill him, she just had a hand in it. She’s bad news. You just don’t know. She really hurt him bad, turned him into someone I didn’t recognize anymore. You gotta trust me.” Jeff set his hand on Evan’s arm.
Evan glanced down at Jeff’s hand. He really felt sorry for Vi, but what if what Jeff said was true. Jeff had been the first person he could trust since he moved here. Evan recalled his first day of school.
“I trust you, Jeff.” Evan decided to let the conversation drop. He then shrugged off the whole thing, “Bro’s before Ho’s anyway, right?” Evan held out his fist to Jeff.
Jeff fist bumped back and laughed, “You don’t know how right that is.”
