Teenage Ghost

    Dan’s jaw dropped.
“Static?” Ms. Stone questioned. “Shouldn’t that be a blue screen?” She glanced at the two maintenance workers, “they stopped using static in the early nineties didn’t they?”
Dan wasn’t listening to her. “There was someone there.” he switched to the multi camera view and fast forwarded to the end of the file. He pushed slow motion play.
Suddenly the power went out on the lap top.
“What?” Dan grabbed the laptop. “I just charged this thing”
“Well what was it you saw then?” the new principle asked.
“It was a teenage girl, with black makeup and black hair. Her face was up in the camera.” He pointed near the ceiling, to get his point across. “But there is no way for her to get up there.”
The two maintenance workers shifted their weight and exchanged nervous glances again.
Ms. Stone drew in a deep breath. “Well we wont get to the bottom of this today. Send me a copy of what you have, and you two can get started on cleaning up the school.” She stood up and walked out of the cafeteria without hesitation.
The two men shook their heads, “We’re not doing it today, boss. Not until you get more people up here. It’s starting to get late. It will be night soon.” the first said.
“What is wrong with you two?” Dan complained.
“I’m not gonna do it.” the second stood up and started to walk out. “I’ll see you tomorrow morning, fresh and early.”
“I didn’t sign up for some senior’s prank first thing. I’ll be back in the morning with the full crew.” the first stood. “I have family, kids. We have a baseball game tonight. I’m not missing it for this.”
Vi gritted her teeth for a second. Anger seethed through her. She felt anger and hatred pulsing through her veins. She knew the maintenance worker had seen the film. She walked slowly down the hallway as evening began to fade to night.
Dan Holbert had not been fired, nor was his crew cleaning up the mess. They wanted to label the whole thing as a senior’s prank.
“Senior’s prank.” Vi said aloud as she walked past the smashed trophy case. She walked down the hallway to Science Lab 2. “Well, I may only be a Junior.” she said as she walked into the lab room. “I’d like to see a Senior pull off something like this!”. She glanced up at the camera near the ceiling, “You’ll wish you never said that.” She then walked out of the room.
She let out a sigh as she neared the end of the hallway. The crew really should have bothered to try to clean up. Then maybe someone would have noticed that the Bunsen burners had been left on.
Vi shrugged, “Oh well, I guess they couldn’t be bothered.” The instant her shoulders dropped the fire ignited.
The explosion was huge, large cinder blocks and cement that held the school together flew into the air. The windows were non existent, the glass shattered and the metal frames bent and blew outwards landing in the courtyard.
The ground shook and the noise woke everyone within five miles.
The entire wing of the school was almost demolished.
Vi smiled with satisfaction and walked to the downstairs girls restroom, which remained in pristine condition still. Despite the blast.
