Teenage Ghost

Vi and Josh sat outside a small circle of eight candles in the center hallway. There was no moon in the sky and the suburb lights left very few stars to be seen. The school was mostly pitch black, except for the small circle they had created.
Vi looked more bewitching than normal in the dark candlelight. Josh felt himself succumbing to her spell.
“I can make the flames burn higher or lower with my mind.” Vi confessed to him.
“You can not.” Josh called her bluff.
Vi smiled wickedly, “I can. Watch.” She closed her eyes and took in a deep breath.
Josh watched as the girls face slowly went from a smile to a non expression.
He noticed at once the light becoming dimmer.
He glanced down at the circle of candles.
    The flames were all blue.
Josh was astonished, “How did you do that? Can you teach me?”
Vi opened her eyes and laughed.
    The flames returned to normal.
“You have to close your eyes and concentrate.” She smiled and watched as he closed his eyes. “Clear your mind of any thoughts.” She paused for a few seconds. “Then think about the oxygen slowly seeping out of the room.”
Josh tried for a few minutes, opened his eyes, and noticed the flame was still yellow. “It’s not working.”
“You’re not trying hard enough.” Vi bided. “You have to give it time. Clear your mind of every thought.”
Josh closed his eyes again and took his time. He cleared his mind of every thought and waited. It felt like an eternity he sat in silence. He opened his eyes and saw he was alone in the hallway.
    “Vi?” Josh called out.
After a few minutes he got up, turned on his flashlight, and walked down the hallways. There was no sign of movement in any of the empty classrooms. He walked into the girls bathroom, “Vi?”
He stood in the darkness of the girls restroom entrance, afraid to go in any further. “Vi?” he said in an almost whisper.
He thought he heard something in the corner of the pitch black room. He turned his flashlight in the direction of the noise.
A ghastly figure rushed towards him so quickly, he dropped his flashlight and raced out of the restroom. He didn’t get to see what it was, it was so quick. It was just a blur or pale, red, and black racing towards him.
He ran down the hallway towards the lit candles. Just before he could reach them, they all unanimously went out like candles being blown out on a birthday cake.
“Vi!” Josh called out, as he ran back towards the restroom.
A beam of light came out of nowhere at the end of the hall. Vi shone the flashlight on her face as she exited the girls bathroom.
Josh quit running at the sight of her, “We have to get out of here!” he warned.
“Why?” Vi shone the light at him, blinding him momentarily.
    “There’s a ghost.”
Vi laughed out loud, “A ghost?” She put the light back to her face and let her features make wicked shadows across it. “There’s no such thing as ghosts.”
