Teenage Ghost

Jennifer couldn’t shake the days events out of her head. When she returned home she walked onto the sunny outdoor patio where her mother was knitting in the natural light.
“Mother, I want to ask you something about when you went to school.”
Her mother didn’t smile or look up from her knitting, she simply replied flatly, “Okay.”
“It’s about the boy who was pushed down the stairwell.”
Her mother stopped knitting and looked up.
“Who’s Evan?” Jennifer asked innocently, but when the name passed her lips her mother’s face turned ash white. “Mother?” Jennifer rushed forward to her mother’s aide and grabbed a glass of water sitting on the nearby table.
Her mother drank from the glass and settled herself, “How do you know that name?”
“We had a séance at school.”
“You what?” her mother’s face turned to sheer horror. “You should not mess with those things, Sweetheart. Those things are very real.” She grabbed Jennifer forcefully and pulled her forward so she could look behind. “Did he follow you home? He can’t stay here. You have to tell him he has to go, he can’t stay here. He can’t talk to me again. I wont talk to him.”
     “Who? Evan?” Jennifer was confused.
“Evan?” her mother put her back in place and let go. “Oh Sweetheart, Evan was the boy who pushed him down the stairs. I’m talking about Jeff.”
‘Jeff?’, Jennifer thought to herself. “That’s really strange.” she remarked. “There’s an Evan and Jeff at our school now. Only Jeff has been missing since the start of school.”
“Stay away from them!” her mother warned her sharply and sternly, “Stay away from them both!”
