Teenage Ghost

Jeff sat across from Eartha in her apartment. She was the only person who could see him now, and he was tired of feeling lonely. The two joked and talked about the customers that entered the store that day. They spoke of things that happened earlier in the week, things they had watched together on the television.
Eartha was beginning to become accustomed to having him around. He wasn’t very useful, in so much as he couldn’t move objects. So he couldn’t help her out with any household chores. On the other hand he didn’t eat, take up space, or use the utilities so he wasn’t costing her anything to be a roommate. And he did provide a support she had not had in a long time, a friend.
Jeff went to the Fortuness with Eartha in the day and watched for shoplifters. The two conversed about everything.
Eartha realized that once Jeff got his powers back, she might not see him again. Then she would be alone again. She struggled at night with the moral decision.
She could keep him with her forever, he could be invaluable during a seance. Sure he couldn’t move things, yet. He could change the temperature in the area he stood, and that was worth something. Eartha also knew she wasn’t the only person in the entire world that could see ghosts.
Was it wrong to want him to stay? It wasn’t like she was keeping him from a life of his own. His life had ended decades ago.
Eartha knew of a spell to keep him bound to her, she had read it as a teenager. It would force him to be her slave until her last breath. The book was an old gypsy hand me down, generation to generation. She didn’t have the book personally, her aunt was in possession of it now.
She struggled with the thoughts nightly. It would be so easy to make a quick fortune, but at what price?
