Teenage Ghost

Josh was unwilling to let this slide. He insisted they go, with an urgent tone, “Come on, Vi.”
Vi pulled a matchbook out of her left pocket and walked towards the candles. She knelt down to the circle and lit the match. Slowly she relit each candle in the circle, one by one. After the light was restored to the hall she looked back at Josh. “Go where? I live here, remember?”
Josh has calmed a little, since nothing had happened since the incident and the light was returning. He was beginning to wonder if maybe his mind hadn’t just been playing tricks on him.
He sat down across from her in silence, he kept his head down and stared at the floor tile. He felt ashamed and foolish, and in front of this girl he liked.
“The dark can play tricks on your eyes.” Vi tried to make him feel better.
Josh looked up at her sullenly.
She smiled back at him, then laid back with her hands under her head as pillow. She sighed and took in a deep breath, she tried to put him at ease by using a soft understanding voice. “I like it, actually. I like to lay back in the dark and see what’s there. I see all kinds of stuff. Sometimes I can control it with my mind.” She looked up a little at Josh.
He was staring into one of the candle flames, he almost seemed mesmerized by it.
Vi laughed a little and sat back up, “Josh, I’m talkin’ to you.” But her smile slowly faded when he didn’t respond back. Vi glanced at the candle flame, and back to Josh. She reached over and touched his arm, still no response.
Vi smiled wickedly and watched the boy sitting there motionless, emotionless, and best of all thoughtless. In a quick wisp of dark grey smoke she transferred herself next to his left ear and began to whisper.
The language she used couldn’t be verbally understood, nor could her tones be heard by anyone had they been nearby. She laid out her plan to him, step by step. A plan of revenge.
Vi smiled her wicked smile as she spoke every word. This plan had taken decades to perfect, and now the time had come to implement it.
She whispered the last directions into Josh’s ear. She leaned back and watched him closely.
He nodded his head slowly, to indicate he understood.
Vi smiled sweetly and ran her fingers through his brown hair. She then leaned over and whispered more.
When she was finished giving him all his instructions, she leaned over and blew out the one candle he was focused on.
Josh inhaled loudly as if he had been without air for too long. He glanced at Vi confused.
She smiled at him, “I told you there was nothing to worry about.”
“I love you, Vi.” Josh professed in true earnest.
Vi blushed and shyly looked at the ground. “I don’t know what to say.”
