Teenage Ghost

“You think he’s dead, don’t you?” Vi accused her.
Rhonda rushed to the kitchen table and sat down. She reached out for Vi’s hand then retracted quickly from the ice coldness of it. She looked at Vi with a tinge of fear in her eye.
“You think I’m dead.” Vi shook her head and rolled her eyes. “What happened? When you saw Jeff, what happened?”
Rhonda said nothing, she couldn’t speak.
Vi bit the inside of her cheek, and narrowed her eyes. The lights in the kitchen began to flicker off and on, and the silverware in the drawers all began to clink together and make noise. Then it stopped, as Vi relaxed her face back to normal. She then asked in a soft but firmer tone, “What happened?”
Rhonda felt hollowed out and afraid. She answered without thinking, in almost monotone voice. “All the cellphones went out, I thought I saw him for brief second.” She shook her head as if she was coming out of a daze.
“Sometimes people are psychic, and can see their loved ones when they are in danger. Are you psychic? I’m psychic, that’s how I made the forks and spoons rattle and the lights go out.” Vi said quickly.
    “No, I’m not…”
Vi cut her off, “You must be, if you saw him. You just didn’t know it.”
    “Evelyn says…”
Vi cut her off again, “Evelyn? I’m talking to you about Jeff. Who’s Evelyn?”
Rhonda was started to regain her senses, “She’s the woman I just had tea with and explained to me about psychokinetic energy and the ethereal realm. She explained to me the Jeff has passed on. The electric charge from the cellphone batteries was able to positively charge his aura. This allowed him to appear in this realm, so I could see him.”
Vi gritted her teeth, she didn’t like having outside forces meddling. She forced a smile, “Well now you have two explanations. You can choose which one you like best. Personally though, I’d rather rescue Jeff while he’s still alive than believe he’s already dead.” Vi shrugged and stood up, “But that’s completely up to you.”
“You think there’s a chance?” Rhonda grabbed Vi’s arm.
Vi looked down at the hand holding her as if she was the last hope on Earth. “I know there is.” she stated as fact.
