The pointer slowly began to move over the letters. “N-E-E-D”
     “Need.” Jennifer said quickly.
     “P-O-W-E-R”
“Power?” Emily questioned. “What does that mean?”
Vi’s look changed to concern, she was no longer angry at the entity she wanted to help. “Does Evan know?”
The pointer landed over the word “No”
“I know an Evan,” Jennifer said quickly. “Is it the same Evan?”
Vi snapped at her, “Don’t waste his time with useless questions.”
Jennifer looked hurt but said nothing more.
The pointer began to swirl furiously until the girls paid attention to it again, then it spelled out, “M-O-M K-N-O-W-S”
“Mom knows?” Brenda said in confusion.
Distant foot steps could be heard in the upstairs hallway. Jennifer and Emily quickly grabbed and blew out the candles. Brenda grabbed the board and pointer. The four girls ran quickly out of the stairwell and into the girls downstairs restroom.
The art teacher Mr. Makelbee could be heard as he entered the hallway, “Are you sure you didn’t smell smoke in there? I hope I’m not getting a brain tumor.”
