Vampires

“The purest blood is always going to come from the fringes of society who live outside the city.” Howard handed a file folder to Viktor. “There’s only around a thousand names that fit your search. The names at the bottom of the list have diseases than can be bred out in two or three generations, using the right medications.”
Viktor opened the file and looked over the names. “The ones on the top of the list are societies elite families. People will notice their son or daughter missing.”
“There is no one abandoned that fit your criteria.” Howard insisted.
“He will not be pleased with these results.” Viktor closed the file.
“My advice to you is go outside the towns. Steal babies like the early eight hundreds, only let them grow and mature into breeding adults. Don’t bother to teach them vocal skills or conduct. Let them grow up like animals, feeding themselves from a trough. They will do the work for us.”
“I will pass this along.” Viktor assured and left.

After considering the files for several days Alfonz had decided what must be done. He assembled a team of seventeen vampires from his ranks. He gave each one instructions and sent them out.
His plan was flawless. Out of the seven hundred and fifty two names, seven had newborns this month, and twelve had children under the age of five. He sent a different vampire to each hospital, and the rest to pediatric clinics through the city. They were to pose as nurses, pull the charts of these children and call the parents. They would then explain to the parents how their child was mistakenly given an injection of Cholorydine and they would need to be tested right away. After the parents agreed to bring the child in, the date was conveniently chosen by the vampire. All the children would come in to the designated areas at the same time on the same day. They would be transported out of the city at the same time, before the police could be notified.
Three weeks later his plan was set in motion. Like a well made watch everything went as planned.
Alfonz glanced at the screaming children, locked in pet carriers in the back of an unmarked eighteen wheeler. He smiled as the door was closed on them and the world around them grew silent.
“I found a place about 67 miles northwest of Las Vegas. No one will go there, there was nuclear testing done in the fifties. We built the site to your specifications.” A slender dark skinned vampire explained.
“Very good.” Alfonz walked away from the truck. “Keep me informed on their progress.”
