Andrew Valone had lived in the city for most of his life, and he made a good living with his law practice. Lately though, the city was just a little too noxious for little girls. He decided he would retire early. He bought a farm in Hamches, where Kira Ann’s sister lived with her family.
They were a few months away from that now though, and it was business as usual. Andrew was picking up his blood pressure medicine. Kira was browsing through cosmetics.
Just another day, like any other.
Keisha Valone was entering third grade next year. The beads in her braided dread locks matched her outfit, that matched her shoes. You could almost call Keisha Valone perfect. She was standing alone outside on the corner store waiting for her parents. Her parents were not concerned for their eight year old child, they could see her through the bulletproof glass. Keisha was an only child, a miracle. She was encouraged to experience life.
So when the strange man with no reflection in the glass approached her, she was more curious than scared.
A man in his mid twenties leaned down and talked to the girl, “What are you doing out here all by yourself? Don’t your parents know it’s not safe?”
     She watched him.
The man reached out and grabbed her arm, then screamed in pain. He released her and looked back at her in shock. His eyes had transformed instantly from a deep brown to that of a dead man’s, drowned at sea. His skin began to slowly decay as if it had been decomposing in deep water.
Keisha stepped away from the man.
Her parents rushed out quickly and glanced at the dying corpse.
“Get behind me Satan.” whispered Andrew as he pulled his daughter further away.
Kira was horrified and tried to shield Keisha’s eyes.
Keisha knew she should have been horrified. However. The only thing she felt inside was that justice had been done.
