Mysteries on the Side

I glanced down at my phone, I have it set so it doesn’t make noise in case I’m at a clients house. Ten minutes in and there’s no word from Mrs. Izato yet.
Serina was carefully and quietly removing each piece off the wall. You could see her annoyance in every movement.
Every so often I would look down at my phone and then back up at her. The longer she was having to work the more annoyed and aggravated she became.
Finally when I looked down I saw a text from Mrs. Izato, it had been about forty five minutes. I didn’t think she had time to have gone through the apartment already, but the text was there.
Mrs. Izato was done but Serina was nowhere near finished. I got up off the couch and approached her. “This is ridiculous. You have other rooms to clean. I’ll finish these up a little at a time.” I urged her to stop. “Those sheets are going to start to stink in a little while, and I don’t want to have to explain why the living room smells of urine.”
“Well she would know why the room smells, if she had me stay in here and dust every single memento and knickknack in the place.” Serina snapped back quickly.
“I offered to help…”
“You should have done that when I first started.” Serina wasn’t interested in my help.
I raised my hands in a sign of surrender and sat back on the couch, I texted Mrs. Izato. “She isn’t even half finished and she wont let me help to get her out of here faster.”
“I’ll get Gertrude to create a diversion.” the text reply came back.
Two minutes later Serina’s phone went off, she exhaled in a mix of exhaustion and frustration and answered it.
I couldn’t make out the first part of what was said.
Serina replied, “I’ll get up there when I can I’m in the middle of a deep clean.”
I heard the rest though, because Gertrude got quite loud. “I didn’t ask you what you were doing right now. And a ‘Deep Clean’ is something you can walk away from and come back to. Do I need to need to call Charlie and find out why Housekeeping isn’t available for in house emergency cleanings? The toilet is overflowing into my bedroom, there’s feces floating at top trying to escape the bowl. The floor and carpet are already saturated with toxic water. When I moved in here I was told specifically NOT to bring my vacuum, carpet cleaner, mops and brooms because housekeeping is always just a call away. This is unacceptable, are you aware how much I pay each month to reside here? Maintenance is already here working on the toilet. Wondering why Housekeeping isn’t up here cleaning up the mess and he’s having to work in this stench.” a very amplified toilet flush could be heard, “Hear that? The toilet is fixed. But now I have to wade through a toxic marshland to get back to the living room, when it should be cleaned up now.”
